About this programme

Who can apply

  • Colgate treats under-27 students as dependent and requires parent information; students entering as dependent are expected to stay dependent during enrolment. If biological/adoptive parents live apart, each submits a separate CSS Profile.

Exclusions and exceptions

  • International students who do not apply for or qualify for need-based aid on admission cannot obtain it in later years. Separated-parent CSS and the under-27 dependency rule also apply to this route.

    Official source · 2026-10-11 ↗
  • Colgate aid is based on financial need; the university does not offer academic merit scholarships. Early decision changes the deadline, not financial-aid eligibility.

    Official source · 2026-10-11 ↗
  • Visiting students cannot receive Colgate financial aid; where appropriate they continue support from their home institution.

What the funding covers

  • Colgate states that it meets admitted students’ full demonstrated need. Most families with income up to $200,000 receive initial offers without loans; this is not an unconditional or universal loan-free promise.

  • Aid may combine grants, loans and work-study according to the family’s assessed circumstances.

Documents to prepare

  • US citizens/permanent residents submit CSS Profile for institutional aid and FAFSA for federal aid. Qualifying New York residents also apply for TAP.

    Official source · 2026-10-11 ↗
  • Selected institutional/federal verification applicants upload requested documents only through College Board IDOC; email, fax and mail are not accepted. Monitor the applicant/current-student portal for missing requirements.

How to apply

  • Declare your financial-aid intention on the admission application and complete the applicable aid process before an admission decision. Requirements vary by citizenship.

    Official source · 2026-10-11 ↗
  • International, undocumented and DACA applicants use CSS Profile. International applicants facing significant financial burden may request a CSS waiver in the applicant portal after the admission application is processed, by the same admission deadline. Paper/PDF CSS copies are not accepted.

Keeping your funding

  • US citizens/permanent residents reapply annually; the 2026/27 renewal priority date was 31 January 2026. International aid is reviewed automatically from the initial application, without annual reapplication. A change to US citizenship or eligible-noncitizen status switches the student to annual domestic reapplication.

    Official source · 2026-10-11 ↗
  • Grant assistance is limited to eight semesters for first-year entrants. Federal-aid-only domestic applicants may file FAFSA without CSS and are not bound by the institutional deadlines.
