EVERY RESULT, EXPLAINED
Clarity starts with
the method.
Effikos calculates from the numbers you enter. This first release supports weighted percentages, final-exam targets, weighted average marks and numeric-point GPA calculations.
Weighted grades
We multiply each known score by its weight, sum the products, then divide by the sum of those weights. Blank scores are excluded; zero scores are included. Weights above 100% in total are rejected. Partial results describe the assessed work so far.
Final-exam targets
We subtract the contribution of your completed work from your target grade, then divide by the final’s weight. This assumes the final is the only remaining assessment and scores cannot exceed 100%. We distinguish targets that are already secured from those requiring more than 100%.
GPA and cumulative GPA
We multiply the grade points you enter by eligible credits and divide their total by the included credits. A previous GPA is combined using its previous credits. The 4.0, 5.0 and 7.0 options set a numeric maximum; they do not choose a national grading policy or convert letter grades.
Academic years and semesters
Organise GPA courses into years and semesters inside one workbook. Each semester and year has its own credit-weighted GPA. The cumulative result combines all included course quality points and credits before rounding; it does not average the displayed semester or year GPAs. Add later years to the same record, and save corrections as new revisions. Previous-GPA history must exclude any credits already listed in these periods.
Target GPA planning
Using the completed GPA and credits entered in the GPA calculator, we calculate the average required across additional future credits: [target × (completed + future credits) − current GPA × completed credits] ÷ future credits. For example, a 3.0 GPA over 30 credits needs a 4.0 average over 10 more credits to reach 3.25. We distinguish attainable targets, targets secured even with zero future points, and targets above the selected scale’s maximum. Required averages are rounded upward to two decimal places; intermediate calculations retain their precision. All credits must use the same scale, and future credits must not already be included as completed work. Repeat replacements are not modelled.
Weighted average marks
We multiply each entered course mark by its credits and divide by the included credits. Blank marks are excluded and zero marks count. This simple WAM model does not automatically apply honours, year-level or course-exclusion rules. It does not convert a WAM into a GPA.
What your institution decides
Check which courses count, whether a repeat replaces an earlier grade, which grade points apply, and how results are rounded. Country-specific and institution-specific presets are being researched and are not yet available in this version. A calculation here is an estimate, not an official transcript or award decision.
Your data
Calculations run in your browser. Saving is optional. “Save on this device” uses browser storage. “Save to account” stores your workbook permanently in your account after you sign in and confirm. A calculation started before sign-in stays in the same browser while you create or access an account. Course names and grades are sent to Effikos’s private database only when you explicitly choose “Save to account”. Account workbooks retain their inputs and rule versions across revisions. They are available after signing in on another device. Use “Clear inputs & saved draft” to remove your device draft, especially on a shared device. This does not delete an account workbook. Browser storage can be cleared by your browser, so it is not a permanent backup. Account saving is separate: you can download a workbook and its revision history, delete a workbook, or delete your account from the account workspace. Signing in does not upload browser drafts automatically.
