WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Confirm entry eligibility before booking, keep the right documents accessible and plan the first night. A visa allows you to seek entry; it does not guarantee admission.

Confirm the journey is permitted

Check current nationality-based restrictions and the conditions of your travel category before spending. Students should coordinate arrival dates and documents with their designated school official. Do not use visitor permission as a substitute for required student permission.

Check every transit point and the passport associated with your booking. Save required documents offline and keep originals in hand luggage.

Prepare for inspection and declarations

Answer border questions accurately and keep your destination address available. Declare food, agricultural items and other goods as required. Check medication rules before packing and retain the appropriate prescription documentation.

Do not carry an unknown parcel for someone else. If you cannot explain what is in your luggage, resolve that before travelling rather than hoping it will not be checked.

Arrange the first night and realistic costs

Confirm airport transport, check-in hours and a late-arrival contact. Budget using the destination’s actual prices: posted prices may not include applicable sales tax, and service charges or tipping practices vary. Read the bill and ask when unsure.

Check healthcare coverage before departure, including exclusions and how to seek help. Do not assume your home insurance or university admission automatically covers all US treatment costs.

Build familiarity without stereotypes

Learn your campus or neighbourhood routes, payment options and where to obtain reliable local advice. Ask people about their preferences rather than assuming everyone shares one communication style or cultural custom.

Next action: save a short arrival sheet containing your address, transport plan, institution contact and insurance assistance details. Share the itinerary with someone you trust and keep identity documents private.
